Content of the individual parts of the course:

Each individual lesson (part) of the course takes place on a separate day and lasts 3 hours. So you can sign up for a topic that interests you.

Part 1: Pregnancy & Childbirth

Gain confidence and peace of mind on the way to childbirth.
In this part of the course, we will focus on what you may encounter during pregnancy and the birth itself and how to make the whole period as comfortable as possible. You’ll learn what’s going on in your body and mind, how to recognise labour starting and how to prepare for it. We will teach you practical techniques and discuss different scenarios that can occur”

What we’ll discuss:

  • What to do during pregnancy for your and your baby’s wellbeing – nutrition, exercise, relaxation, physiotherapy support
  • How to prepare for childbirth – mentally and practically
  • What (not) to expect in the maternity hospital, what a birth plan is and what it’s for
  • How to recognize that “this is it”
  • How labor progresses step by step (and what to do in each phase)
  • Pain-relieving positions, breathing, natural and medical support
  • What happens right after birth – contact with the baby, first medical care
  • Options for outpatient birth and everything worth clarifying in advance

Part 2: The Postpartum Period & Your Baby

What to Expect After Coming Home – Caring for Your Baby and Yourself

Birth is just the beginning. The postpartum period brings a whirlwind of emotions, changes, and new experiences. In this section, we’ll explore how to take care of both your baby and yourself, how to set healthy boundaries, and where to allow gentleness – even toward yourself.

You’ll learn the basics of newborn care and how to navigate common situations that may feel challenging in the early days.

What will you learn?
  • What to expect during the postpartum period (in the hospital and at home)
  • Healing after birth: what’s normal and when to pay attention
  • How to manage fatigue, emotions, and mood swings
  • Practical baby care: diapering, bathing, babywearing, soothing
  • What’s essential in your baby kit and what you don’t need to buy
  • How to establish a routine with a newborn (sleep, breastfeeding, bonding)
  • How to set boundaries – visitors, support, living with others
  • When to call a doctor, what to keep at home as basic first aid

Part 3: Breastfeeding

In this part, we’ll focus on breastfeeding – how to get started, how to encourage latching on, how to make breastfeeding as easy as possible – and, most importantly, what to do if something goes wrong. You’ll learn what’s normal, what’s not, and where to look for help when difficulties arise. All with respect for the fact that every woman and baby have a different journey.

What we’ll discuss:

    • how to latch on properly and what is a “good latch”
    • how to know if the baby is drinking enough
    • what to do for sore nipples, rashes, inflammation
    • how to prevent blocked milk ducts
    • how milk production works and what affects it
    • breastfeeding myths and realities
    • when and how to introduce feeds
    • what if breastfeeding doesn’t work – options and support routes without pressure

At the newly opened Skusto Training Centre you will find a friendly environment, a relaxed atmosphere and lots of practical information to give you confidence on your journey to birth and motherhood.

Whether you come alone or with a partner, a tailor-made course awaits you:

  • The option for couples also focuses on the role of the partner, how to be supportive in childbirth…
  • The women’s option offers a space to share, support each other and create new friendships with other women going through a similar life stage..
